  1. Obtaining Direct Licences for Specific Purposes from AMCOS/APRA.

    TAFE colleges wishing to use music for specific purposes may obtain licences direct from APRA (representing performers) and AMCOS (representing publishers) and ARIA (representing recording companies).

    The table below sets out some of the individual licences available through APRA/AMCOS and the rates that are charged.  Further information about specific licences is available from the APRA website: http://www.apra.com.au/ (under “Music Users”.)  You can also download licence application forms from this site.

Free event eg concert, festival involving performers

2.2% of gross expenditure on performers

For all events song list required from all performers to be sent to APRA within 30 days of event to allow distribution of royalties

Free dance party (with DJ)

Calculated on number of people admitted

 

Event or function for invited guests

Depends on scale of event but if applicable 2.2% of gross expenditure on performers

 

Event featuring live performers where admission charged

2.2% of gross expenditure on live performers PLUS 1.65% of gross sums paid for admission

 

Halls & Function centres (used by TAFE or hired out)

$2.72 per hundred persons for each function at which music performed – minimum annual fee $54.07

 

Background music including use on large screens, video juke boxes, radios, tv’s, music players eg in TAFE cafeterias, bars

Various depending on equipment used

 

Music on hold

Various depending upon number of telephone lines

 

Music in Workplace

Annual rate 72.6 cents per employee, minimum annual fee $48.18

Note:  May cover number of students as well.  Annual rate runs from 1/12/05 – 20/11/06.

Fitness Centres – Aerobic and Circuit Classes

90.2 cents per aerobic class; 45.1 cents per circuit class

 

Fitness Centres – Background music

Various depending upon equipment used
