"Nothing Beats the Real Thing!": An Educational Module on Copyright Piracy for Secondary/TAFE Students

|

‘Is it OK to copy this movie for a friend?’
‘Can I take this film clip and put it on my website?’
‘Downloading the latest film release to watch at home’s OK, right?’

These are the questions that students face almost daily; however the answers they receive are not always accurate.

In today’s digital age, where content is easily accessed, copied and distributed, without the permission of the copyright owner, it’s important that we help students understand the issues in a way that allows them to make an informed and responsible personal choice.

That’s where Nothing Beats The Real Thing! can help. This resource focuses on film and TV copyright, and the impact of copyright piracy on creativity and society. The resource is an educational module that includes quizzes, interactive games and activities, designed for students across all curriculum areas. By using it, or elements of it, in classrooms, teachers can help their students address a significant personal, community and citizenship issue in an accessible way.

Nothing Beats the Real Thing! is an initiative of the IP Awareness Trust, and is produced by the Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) and Ryebuck Media (experienced educational resource creators).

In September 2008, the resource booklet (including DVD/ROM) was mailed to every secondary school Librarian. Additional copies are available for only $6.50 (to cover postage, handling and GST). To order, please send your cheque, credit card details or school purchase order to:
