'Something Old, Something New': Student Project licensed under Creative Commons

'Something Old, Something New' is a video created by Anika Staffa, Courtney Fowler, Jue-Ying Liang, Margrete Helgeby and Sarah Oldfield as part of the Digital Media in the Communication Studies programme at the University of Western Australia, a unit run by Dr Tama Leaver.

Anika, Courtney, Jue-Ying, Margrete and Sarah decided to make 'Something Old, Something New' available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 2.5 Australia Licence in the hope that other students and teachers will use, remix and build upon the video.

'Something Old, Something New' explores the differences and similarities between traditional notions of journalism and journalistic practice today by juxtaposing a 1940s educational video about journalism with contemporary footage, some created by the team and some from freely reusable sources.

The source documentary is titled 'Journalism' (1940) and forms part of the Prelinger Archives. It was generously placed in the public domain, allowing students the ability to reuse and remix the video and audio without restrictions.
